Drogba: I will need to fight for team place

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has claimed he will need to fight for his place in the team, with the team's new football manager, Andre Villas-Boas, looking set to use just one man up front.

The Ivory Coast international said he will be competing against the likes of record signing Fernando Torres, Nicolas Anelka and Daniel Sturridge, the latter of which had an impressive loan spell with Bolton last season.

"If I deserve to play then I will play. If I'm not good then I won't. It's good for the team to have some competition," he said.

The 33-year-old, who went to Chelsea from Marseilles for £24 million in 2004, also stated that his age will not be a problem, although he admitted it "feels strange" to be the oldest player in the team.

Last season, Drogba scored 11 goals in 36 Premier League appearances, although his team failed to win the title, eventually finishing in second place behind Manchester United.
