Volcanic ash changes Barcelona's travel plans
25th May 2011 - Chad Lazarus
Football manager Pep Guardiola and his Barcelona squad travelled to London yesterday (May 24th) amid concerns over the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland.
Originally, the Spanish champions were scheduled to fly to England on Thursday, but opted to travel early due to worries about the ash potentially spreading to the UK.
Guardiola said: "Let's hope that the volcano doesn't disrupt travel plans of all the fans who want to go.
"Lots and lots of people - 10,000 or 12,000 people - will travel by plane on the same day and might not be able to change those plans."
Guardiola also explained that it could be a "handicap" for Barcelona to play in a final where a substantial number of their supporters are absent.
In last year's Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan, Barcelona were affected by the eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano and had to drive roughly 600 miles via bus to reach the San Siro.
