Patrick Vieira: I was made for English football

22nd July 2011 - Berko Tau

Patrick Vieira has admitted that England was where he played his best football games.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder believes that his mentality and approach to the game is characteristically English, in an interview with the Daily Mail.

He told the newspaper: "England was where I was really able to express myself.

"It is not something I had to find, or try to change about my game. The English game was made for me."

Vieira has retired to take up a role at the Boys & Girls Club of East Los Angeles, but played his last football games under Man City football manager Roberto Mancini.

The former France international won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups while at Arsenal, where he was involved in an unbeaten league campaign in 2003/04.

He played 279 games for the Gunners, scoring 29 goals. He only made 28 appearances on his return to the Premier League for Man City, scoring three goals.
