Manchester United football manager angered by referee
2nd March 2011 - Berko Tau
Manchester United football manager Sir Alex Ferguson was fuming with referee Martin Atkinson after his side lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
United took the lead after stamping their authority on the first half, with Wayne Rooney breaking the deadlock from 25 yards.
However, in the second half, Chelsea came back into the game and equalised through David Luiz, before a late Frank Lampard penalty sealed the points.
Yet football manager Ferguson was incensed that Luiz had not been sent off for a late challenge on Wayne Rooney with the score tied at 1-1.
The Scot added: "It was incredible. Even before that he'd done Chicharito off the ball. He'd done him late. Nothing done, the referee's in front of it.
"He does Rooney clear as day, [the referee is] six yards from it, he doesn't do anything."
Ferguson went on to question the referee's suitability for high-level football games, which could land him in hot water with the FA.
Atkinson was in charge of the same fixture last year, which saw Chelsea secure a 1-0 win from a controversial free-kick awarded by the official.
