Gattuso faces Uefa disciplinary action
17th February 2011 - Chad Lazarus
AC Milan's Gennaro Gattuso will face a Uefa disciplinary hearing for his actions in the club's Champions League game against Tottenham Hotspur.
The midfielder has been charged with 'gross unsporting conduct' for his clash with Spurs' assistant manager Joe Jordan in Tuesday's (February 14th) first-leg match.
Gattuso twice came face-to-face with Jordan at the San Siro during the fixture, first grabbing him by the throat before head-butting him.
The AC Milan star will be up against Uefa's control and disciplinary body next Monday (February 21st), though the player will already miss the second-leg fixture against Tottenham Hotspur next month, having being suspended for picking up a yellow card in Tuesday's meeting.
However, the Italian club's chief executive officer Adriano Galliani, has hit back at the disciplinary hearing, telling Italian media that Gattuso was provoked.
Mr Galliani claimed: "What Rino did was an unpleasant episode that was not good. But he has been deeply provoked and should not be criminalised."
