ISE ISE Baby...
Ten years ago, back in secondary school, the deputy head often led assemblies. As I’m sure you’ll remember from your own experiences, these school assemblies usually consisted of getting shouted at for the behaviour of a few lads in 11C who you’d never met, followed by some sort of moral or ethical lecture. Without fail the deputy’s message would be about the importance of community, a word which he’d always accompany by dovetailing his fingers together like a self-satisfied Bond villain after aiming a laser at 007’s nether regions.
Everyone could do an impression of that deputy head. We all took the mick. Little did I know that years down the line community would be just as important to me as it was for him.
As you might have noticed if you’ve dropped by the shiny new official forums, I’ve recently been appointed as the Community Lead for Football Superstars. So what does it mean? Well for starters it means that if you spend the best part of a year firing ideas at the developers they might eventually give in and employ you, but mainly it means that I’m at least partly responsible for keeping you, dear reader, happy as Larry.
Luckily I have met Larry; he taught me to drive a few years back and was indeed a pretty chipper chap, so with him as my yardstick I’ll be doing my utmost to give you the best Football Superstars experience possible, even before the game launches.
I became a part of the Football Superstars community back in July last year and have watched the game progress as you all have, refreshing footballsuperstars.com like a madman hoping the next click would bring fresh information of another feature to put me within a few BPM of a heart attack.
I’ve been a part of the community caravan on all of its travels from the old forum at IGN, through the Evolution-FS fansite, and on to our new home here, and in that time I think I’ve got a pretty good idea of what our community wants: information, support, and entertainment (which I’m accompanying with the trendy acronym, ISE). Pictures of computer-generated women seem to be pretty popular too, but mostly I’ll be focusing on the whole ISE thing…
The developers of Football Superstars have always gone the extra mile to listen to what their fans have got to say. I suppose my employment is proof of that! In my role at CyberSports my goal is to uphold the exceptional standard of interaction that was offered to me; it seems only fair after all!
I also aim to build on the foundations laid by CSFSSteveM and co. – while their community interaction has been limited by what little time is available after a hard day’s work actually building Football Superstars, my sole responsibility is to look after the community.
Rather than twiddling my thumbs between forum moderation sessions I’ll be frantically putting together ideas for ways that we can increase our ability to inform, support, and entertain the fans. I may well have a list as long as my arm already, but you know what this community needs at least as well as I do and I’m ready and willing to hear your ideas.
What do you want from your Community Lead? Let me know here…
