Michael Owen signs contract extension at Man United
1st June 2011 - Berko Tau
Michael Owen has agreed to a one-year contract extension that will see him play football games for Manchester United for a further year.
It will be his third season with the champions, but his time at the club has been hindered by a succession of injuries as well as the exceptional form of Javier Hernandez.
The Mexican striker formed a formidable partnership with Wayne Rooney this season, which has continued to keep Owen on the sidelines.
Michael Owen told the club's website: "I'm delighted to have agreed a one-year extension to my contract. To play alongside so many great players, under an exceptional manager, and in front of so many incredibly passionate supporters, is a real inspiration. I can't wait for next season to start."
The decision to extend Owen's contract may fuel speculation surrounding the future of Dimitar Berbatov, who scored 20 league goals this season but could not even make the bench against Barcelona in the Champions League final.
