Allardyce named as new West Ham manager
1st June 2011 - Sigvard Magnus
Sam Allardyce has been appointed as West Ham United's new football manager and will immediately take charge of the squad.
Allardyce recently managed Blackburn and has also had spells at the helm of Newcastle and Bolton, where he was the boss for over seven years.
Commenting on his appointment, he said: "It is an honour to be the new manager of West Ham United. It is a fantastic club with a great tradition and loyal supporters who deserve to be in the Premier League."
Allardyce also commented that he is determined to get the club to the Premier League.
He is the 14th man to manage the club after they relieved Avram Grant of his duties last month.
West Ham finished bottom of the table in the 2010/2011 season, with only 33 points.
One of Allardyce's first objectives may be settling the future of Scott Parker, who has been the team's key performer over recent years.
