Feature 2: Training to Become a Team Player

This month's game feature focuses on some of the key issues raised when considering the Football Superstars game concepts and details a little more on the Football engine being built from the ground up.

Two of the questions we continually face are "How will you stop everyone following the ball around the pitch ?" and "Won't everyone want to be a striker ??"

The quick answers to both are "We won't need to" and "Did Mozer or Ricardo resent playing as defenders ?" Both questions are very valid, and we address them in a related fashion.

We fully expect initial games to be pretty chaotic, actually we would be disappointed for them not to be but we ensure the player is exposed to the concepts of team play and tactics very early.

It won’t be long before a team that plays together as a unit will easily defeat a team full of would be Rooney's. By the time you are playing in an 11-a-side league final you will know what is required to be successful.

This will become even more apparent as players begin to play against well orchestrated teams. Leaders will emerge and their groups will be quickly elevated to the top of the leagues.

Those that choose to play otherwise will be left behind to play their own casual game (Although there’s nothing wrong with that... just don’t expect to be invited to play in the big leagues any time soon...)

As for the striker question, sure, everyone would love to have the reputation for being the best striker a nation can produce. But in Football Superstars everyone will be rewarded for their participation equally in a team. Blocking a shot in your six yard box will be as significant as scoring a goal or putting in a well placed cross.

We capture a wealth of statistics in each match that will build a picture of any player's ability regardless of their position on the pitch or role within the team.

If the football world was made up of 90% strikers, those that choose to play in defensive or midfield roles will prove to be infinitely more valuable to a manager, making themselves more important and in demand over time.

We do however cater for the more casual game, giving you the opportunity to have a kick-about with friends any time, across a wide number of pitches in the world, should you prefer to not experience the pressure of an International cup final...
