Stoppage time penalty infuriates football manager Wenger
18th April 2011 - Sigvard Magnus
Arsenal football manager Arsene Wenger was left fuming after his side drew 1-1 with Liverpool yesterday (April 17th).
After a serious injury to Jamie Carragher, referee Andre Marriner announced there would be a minimum of eight minutes of stoppage time.
Robin van Persie scored from the penalty spot after 97 minutes, but Liverpool still had time to win a free-kick, and then earn a penalty of their own.
By the time Dirk Kuyt's strike hit the back of the net 102 minutes of the game had elapsed.
"We conceded a penalty after 11 minutes when the referee said there was eight minutes of injury time," said football manager Wenger.
"I don't see where those three minutes came from and it was no penalty."
Arsenal now lie six points behind Manchester United in the race for the Premier League title, with just six football games left to play. The two sides will face each other at the Emirates Stadium on May 1st.
