Hughes quits as Fulham football manager
3rd June 2011 - Berko Tau
Mark Hughes has resigned as football manager of Fulham after being in the post for less than one year.
The ex-Manchester City boss has been linked with the vacant job at Aston Villa since Gerard Houiler quit the Midlands club earlier this week.
However, commenting after leaving Fulham, Hughes said that nether himself nor his representative have been approached by any other team.
He said: "As a young, ambitious manager I wish to move on to further my experiences.
"I believe my management team and I have done a good job and the club has a strong foundation from which they can go forward."
Fulham were in negotiations to extend Hughes' deal, but their hopes were scuppered after the Welshman handed in his resignation.
In his one season at Fulham, Hughes guided them to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League after taking over from Roy Hodgson last July.
