Wilshire's U21 involvement is 'massive risk'
20th May 2011 - Chad Lazarus
Football manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshire has been selected for this year's European Under-21 Championships, which he sees as a massive risk.
The squad is not set to be revealed until June 1st, but Wenger announced the news in a recent press conference.
He said: "He has played nearly 50 games this year [for Arsenal]. To go to a tournament, for me, is a massive risk.
"I am happy if the Under-21s do well because I want England to do very well."
Wenger added that Wilshire knows he is almost at the end of his energy level, yet he remains keen to perform well on the pitch.
The young Arsenal midfielder has had a tremendous season with the Gunners, which was capped off last month when he clinched the Players Football Association's young player of the year award, ahead of Manchester United's Nani, among others.
