Ricketts injury could 'leave him out for lengthy period'
17th February 2011 - Sigvard Magnus
Bolton Wanderers defender Sam Ricketts could face a considerable time on the sidelines, after picking up an Achilles injury when playing against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup last night (February 16th).
The regular player of the Premier League outfit encountered the problem when he was attempting to close down Victor Moses in the tournament's fourth-round replay at the DW Stadium, which Bolton Wanderers went on to win 1-0.
Ricketts will undergo a scan today to determine the severity of the injury, though manager Owen Coyle has expressed his fears about the Welsh international.
He said: "He's damaged his Achilles and it doesn't look great. I think he'll be out for a lengthy period of time."
Bolton Wanderers' chief believes that his side can go on to capture FA Cup glory now that they are in the last-16 though.
"We go to Fulham [at the weekend] and try to win. We're in the quarter-final of the best cup competition in world football," he explained.
