Out-of-form Everton fall to Reading in FA Cup
2nd March 2011 - Sigvard Magnus
Matt Mills became the saviour of Reading last night, firing home early in the match-up against Premier League Everton to give his Championship squad a victory and take them into the FA Cup quarter-finals.
A poor performance from Everton was compounded on 26 minutes when the defender fired in a low shot from 12 yards following a clearance that went awry.
Leon Osman had the best opportunity to give Everton the chance to play more football games in this year's FA Cup, but was denied by a stunning one-handed save from Royals keeper Alex McCarthy.
Everton football manager David Moyes, alongside the team's fans, will undoubtedly be shocked at the contrast between this performance and the one that saw them knock out Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the fourth round.
Reading will go on to travel to either Aston Villa or Manchester City on Sunday, who resolve their differences tonight alongside Arsenal, who face off against League One Leyton Orient.
