Newcastle bring in Mehdi Abeid from Lens
1st July 2011 - Alma Shera
Mehdi Adeid will now play football games for Newcastle United, after the club signed him from Lens on a five-year contract.
The 18-year-old completed a trial at the Magpies last season and has played for France at both Under-17 and Under-18 level.
Commenting on the transfer, Newcastle reserve team manager Peter Beardsley told the club's official website: "We are delighted to bring Mehdi to the club.
"He is a bright, young talent and we think he has an exciting future ahead of him."
Beardsley also explained that Mehdi was impressive during his trial period with Newcastle last season and is looking forward to working on developing his abilities.
In an interview with the club website, Newcastle football manager Alan Pardew emphasised the importance of seeing Hatem Ben Arfa and Dan Gosling return from injury.
Pardew particularly underlined the significance of Ben Arfa, claiming that he could be like the "club's best signing" if he remains fit.
