Jack Wilshere wants tournament experience with U21s
31st March 2011 - Sigvard Magnus
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has reiterated his desire to play football games for the England Under-21 (U21) team this summer.
Although Wilshere has now cemented a place for himself in the senior side, the youngster could play a key role in the U21s' European Championship team in June.
Playing in the tournament would likely upset Gunners football manager Arsene Wenger, who is firmly of the belief that players are already required to play too many soccer games.
But Wilshere insists it will be excellent experience for him and will help all young players develop.
He explained: "If you look at the Germans … they won the Under-21 tournament and the following year they went to the World Cup with many of the same players and did well.
"It is important to start winning international tournaments early and get that mentality into you."
Wilshere played both of England's senior soccer games against Wales and Ghana in the last week, attracting almost universal praise from the media for the quality of his football.
