Jack Wilshere to appeal to football manager for U21 chance
28th March 2011 - Sigvard Magnus
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is to ask Arsene Wenger for permission to play in the Under-21 (U21) European Championship next month.
The youngster was a star performer for Fabio Capello's England team against Wales on Saturday (March 26th), but is also wanted to form part of U21 football manager Stuart Pearce's squad for the tournament in June.
This does not sit well with Wenger, who is keen to stop the Football Association from over-working one of his most important players.
However, Wilshere himself is desperate to play, and will make an appeal to the Gunner boss himself.
He said: "This is international football and I want to play in any international football.
"I always speak to the manager at Arsenal and I will again. I am sure Stuart Pearce and Fabio Capello will talk to him as well."
Wilshere made his first start for the senior England team last month in Denmark, which is where the U21 tournament will take place this summer.
