Football manager Jose Mourinho 'the right man for Real'

1st April 2011 - Chad Lazarus

Football manager Jose Mourinho is the right man to bring back the glory days to Real Madrid, according to Jorge Valdano.

The Real general manager has had run-ins with Mourinho in the past, but is confident that the Portuguese football manager will be able to provide "many glorious afternoons" at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid have been second best in La Liga for the last two seasons and look set to finish behind Barcelona again this year.

However, it is the repeated failures in the Champions League - a competition that Real consider to be part of their identity - that prompted the club to bring in Mourinho.

He said: "Mourinho is the leader of a team that continues improving from a football standpoint and I am sure it will bring us many glorious afternoons.

"He feels protected by the club and feels more comfortable every day, as he himself recently stated."

Former Chelsea boss Mourinho will return to London this month, as Real prepare to face Tottenham in two Champions League quarter-final soccer games.
