England women's team 'will bounce back' after World Cup defeat
11th July 2011 - Chad Lazarus
England will bounce back after crashing out in the Women's World Cup football game against France over the weekend, according to Arsenal's Rachel Yankey.
The match went to penalties, with captain Faye White and Claire Rafferty failing to convert their spot kicks in Leverkusen.
Speaking to the BBC, Yankey explained: "We are all gutted and it is hard to take but we will bounce back from this.
"We just have to stick together as a team and make sure we get over it."
The Gunners winger also defended the two penalty misses, claiming that anyone choosing to take that kind of responsibility in such a big game deserves "full credit".
England had led through Jill Scott's goal until just minutes from the end of the quarter-final, when Elise Bussaglia equalised.
France will face the USA in the semi-final on Wednesday evening at 17:00 BST, before Japan square up to Sweden in the other semi-final game at 19:45 BST.
