England U21s exit European Championship
20th June 2011 - Sigvard Magnus
England's Under-21s will no longer play football games at this year's European Championship due to a 2-1 loss against the Czech Republic.
Danny Welbeck put England in the ascendancy with a header in the 76th-minute, before the Czech Republic substitutes Jan Chramosta and Thomas Pekhart came on to score a goal each and seal their team's win.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Stuart Pearce said: "They didn't really cause us a problem defensively but we switched off for a minute, it falls to their player, and it's 1-1. The second goal was neither here nor there."
The team's exit from the tournament is perhaps symptomatic of them not passing the ball well enough in their opening two matches, Pearce added.
Spain are one team that will progress beyond the group stage as a result of their 3-0 win over Ukraine, which included two goals from Juan Mata.
