Luka Modric will not be allowed to hand in a transfer request, bringing an end to speculation that he could be playing his football games with Chelsea next season.
The Croatian had hinted that he would like to move to Stamford Bridge, but has been told by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy that he will not be allowed to leave.
Levy explained: "It's the end of it.
"As I said a few weeks ago there's no further discussion on it. He was on holiday, we've now had the conversation and he understands our position."
Meanwhile, Aston Villa football manager Alex McLeish is believed to be nearing the signature of defender Alan Hutton from Spurs.
The Scot is believed to be willing to spend £5 million to secure the services of his countryman in football games next season.
Hutton had previously been linked with a move to Bolton, as part of an exchange deal to secure centre-back Gary Cahill for Spurs next season.
