Birmingham set for '£90m game'

16th May 2011 - Alma Shera

Veteran Birmingham City striker Kevin Phillips has described his team's tie with Tottenham next Sunday's as a £90 million football game.

The Midlands club needs to at least match Blackpool and Wigan's scorelines in order to prevent themselves from being relegated to the Championship. Phillips has told the BBC that he apologises to the team's supporters.

In an article on the BBC football website, he stated: "I have been in this situation a couple of times before and we need the experienced players to come to the front and everyone to perform at White Hart Lane.

"They talk about the Championship play-off final being worth £90m, there's three Premier League games next week worth as much as that. "

Birmingham City's goalkeeper Ben Foster recently announced that he is to take a break from international football games in order to focus on his club team.

He believes that the extra rest gained from not travelling with England will help to prolong his career at the club.
