Barcelona determined to sign Fabregas

21st July 2011 - Alma Shera

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has expressed his insistence that the Spanish team will take Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas off their hands.

Following the rejection of a £27 million bid for the player in June, the Barca boss revealed that the London team has made another offer and the two parties have until August 31st to reach a deal.

Fabregas, who began his career at the Barcelona academy before being transferred to Arsenal at the age of 16, has been rumoured to have a £40 million valuation by manager Arsene Wenger.

It is thought that Barcelona will try a final bid of £35 million, which may be enough to sway the team.

"We will fight to the end to try to get Cesc because we believe he will improve the team and the squad," Guardiola said.

In domestic news, Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given recently committed to playing football games at Aston Villa next season, filling the gap left by the departure of Brad Friedel to Tottenham.
