Once a month Alyson Rudd, sports writer for The Times, will be contributing an article to footballsuperstars.com with her unique view on the world of football.

As well as her work for The Times, she has written a biography of Chelsea director Matthew Harding and her own autobiography "Astroturf Blonde." Alyson is a Liverpool supporter and coaches children's football teams.

Breaking up is hard to do....

The most stress you will experience in football is not the penalty shoot-out of a Champions League Final. Nor is it those dying seconds of the final match of the season when only victory will save you from relegation and humiliation.

It is not even the morning of the new campaign when you wake up and remember you were relegated and there is not a single fixture that looks remotely glamorous.

The Stress Point of the football fan is being felt right now. Rumour, speculation, Telephoto lenses, hurtful headlines, weekly wages, transfer budgets and, worst of all, the real deals all serve to make the summer, quite simply, horrid.

Are you enjoying Euro 2008?

We were sat in a restaurant talking about holidays. My sister wanted advice and my husband piped up that the best holiday we had ever been on was our first trip to Majorca.

“You only think that because we watched the 1994 World Cup there,” I said. The fact is, football tournaments can define your life.

Troubled that you will be in Benidorm on a tight budget this month? Fear not. It will be one of the greatest holidays of your life. You will not remember the bad food, the bathroom mould and not quite completed pool.
